India-based restaurant brand Moti Mahal has announced expansion plans amid commemorating its 100th anniversary this year, reported ET HospitalityWorld.com.

As part of the multi-faceted expansion, the brand intends to launch 5,000 franchise outlets globally to serve its ‘unique’ recipes with flavours of North Indian cuisine.

Moti Maha began as a tiny restaurant in Peshawar in present-day Pakistan in the 1920s by Kundan Lal Gujral. The restaurant then shifted to the Indian city of Delhi following the partition of India.

After embracing a franchising model in the 1990s, Moti Mahal has been able to expand quickly both locally and abroad.

The brand currently has outlets in various countries, including the US, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, the Maldives, Italy, Germany and Sri Lanka.

Moti Mahal Delux Management Services chairman and managing director Monish Gujral said: “The brand aims to become the world’s largest Indian restaurant franchise and F&B consultancy service, imprinting its signature in fine dining, fast food concepts for malls and hypermarkets.

“They envision setting up 5,000 franchise outlets worldwide, providing ethnic North Indian food in traditional and authentic ambiences at prime locations in cities across the globe.”

Alongside setting up new outlets, the brand intends to produce and market its distinctive spice mix, ready-to-eat items and frozen products.

Moti Mahal also plans to establish a cloud kitchen network that offers its signature dishes throughout India.
