US-based family-owned business Pappas Restaurants has emerged as leading bidder in the auction for On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina, in a move that is set to expand its national footprint.

The acquisition, pending court approval, is expected to be finalised in spring 2025.

Founded in Dallas in 1982, On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina has been serving Border-style Tex-Mex cuisine for more than forty years.

At its peak, On The Border operated more than 150 locations across the US and internationally.

On the Border currently operates 60 company-owned restaurants across 18 states and has 20 franchised locations in the US and South Korea.

Pappas Restaurants is a family-owned and operated restaurant group based in Houston, Texas. Its portfolio contains Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, Pappasito's Cantina, Pappas Bar-B-Q and Pappas Bros Steakhouse.

This synergy will enable Pappas Restaurants to cater to a broader audience across more markets.

Pappas Restaurants plans to refine On The Border's menu, enhance operations and elevate the guest experience.
