Perkins American Food names Matt Carpenter as brand president

Carpenter was previously CEO of Olga’s Kitchen and chief operating officer of Frisch’s Restaurants.

Perkins American Food, formerly Perkins Restaurant & Bakery, has appointed restaurant executive Matt Carpenter as its new brand president.

Carpenter is the latest senior hire made under Paul Damico, CEO of Perkins' parent Ascent Hospitality Management, who has been reshaping the company’s executive team with an emphasis on longer-term expansion.

Carpenter has more than 40 years of experience spanning restaurant operations and franchising.

His background covers both sides of the franchise model, including time as a franchisee with Golden Corral, Round Table Pizza and Burger King, alongside roles with larger franchisor organisations.

Damico stated: “We are thrilled to welcome Matt to our leadership team with his impressive career achievements and extensive industry experience.

“His track record, particularly in operations and franchising, aligns perfectly with our strategic vision for Perkins. As we continue investing in growth and modernisation, Matt’s expertise will help set the new standard for what family dining can be for today’s consumers and into the future.”

In his most recent role, Carpenter was an interim and fractional operating leader.

He supported private equity groups, founders and family-run restaurant companies in improving operations, developing field management and strengthening unit-level financial performance.

His previous executive roles include CEO of TOMS King, a Burger King franchise operator.

During his tenure, the business grew to 140 locations, expanding in several states.

Carpenter oversaw operational restructuring and capital investment discipline.

He also previously served as CEO of Olga’s Kitchen and as chief operating officer of Frisch’s Restaurants.

Carpenter stated: “I believe the best way to grow a brand is to grow the people who run it. We can do this by giving them a clear playbook, consistent support and accountability.

“Having worked as both a franchisor and franchisee, I understand the pressures and opportunities on each side. I’m excited to bring that perspective to Perkins and help set the brand on a strong path for sustained growth and success.”
