Perkins Restaurant & Bakery has signed a development deal to open ten new locations in the US state of California.

The move marks the brand's entry to the state and aligns with its growth trajectory following a record-breaking 2023.

The franchisee leading the expansion is an experienced multi-unit operator with a track record in the quick-service and family dining sectors. Their personal details were not disclosed.

The initial phase of the expansion includes confirmed locations in Corona, North Hollywood, Covina, Rancho Cucamonga and Chino Hills, with five additional sites to be announced.

Perkins Restaurant & Bakery chief operating officer Peter Ortiz said: “We are thrilled to embark on this exciting journey as we introduce Perkins to the vibrant state of California.

“This expansion represents a huge milestone for our brand, and we are confident that our timeless concept and exceptional dining experience will resonate deeply with Californians.”

Perkins Restaurant & Bakery brand president Toni Ronayne said: “Our expansion into California marks an important chapter for Perkins.

“We are excited to bring our rich heritage, innovative offerings and commitment to excellence to new guests across the state.”

Since its inception in 1958 as a single pancake house, Perkins has evolved into a prominent family restaurant chain in the US and Canada, with 300 operational or in-development locations.

In February 2024, Ascent Hospitality Management, the parent company of Perkins, appointed Ronayne as its president.

Steven Roach was named chief technology officer for Perkins and for Huddle House, another brand owned by Ascent.

Before her tenure at Ascent, Ronayne was Canadian managing director for Little Caesars Pizza.
