Malaysian restaurant chain Roti King is set to open its first Scottish restaurant, which will be located in Edinburgh, on 12 December 2025.

The move marks the next phase of its expansion across the UK following recent launches in Brighton and Spitalfields, London.

The new outlet will be at 8 South St Andrew Street, just off Princes Street.

It will offer Malaysian street dishes, including Char Kway Teow, a stir-fried rice noodle dish with prawn and egg, and roti canai served with dhal and a choice of chicken, mutton or fish kari.

Other menu items encompass Malaysian fried chicken marinated in garlic, ginger and lemongrass, coated with cornstarch and rice flour and presented with a spicy sambal.

An open kitchen will allow diners to watch staff hand-stretch and cook roti to order, a feature central to Roti King’s restaurants.

Roti King CEO Ganan Kanagathurai stated: “Roti King has always been about more than food. It’s about the emotional connection between people, culture and community.

“We’re excited to be part of Edinburgh’s incredible independent food scene and to share the passion and creativity of Malaysia with a city that appreciates honest, authentic, flavourful food.”

The site’s fit-out will retain the building’s original features and existing brickwork, and include murals and graffiti inspired by Malaysian streets.

Roti King was founded by chef Sugen Gopal, who moved to the UK in 2004 and began trading from a small kiosk in Oriental City, Colindale in north London.

The business opened its inaugural restaurant in Euston in 2014 and now operates multiple London locations.

Opening hours for the Edinburgh restaurant will be 11.30am to 10pm Sunday to Thursday, and 11.30am to 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
