Shake Shack is deploying autonomous robots from Coco Robotics via the Uber Eats platform in Chicago.
The technology is being introduced initially at two outlets, with city-wide expansion planned.
Shake Shack chief growth officer Steph So stated: "At Shake Shack, we're always looking for new ways to meet our guests where they are, and this partnership gives us another convenient option to bring the Shack experience to them, especially during the colder months.
"We're excited to see how this technology can make things easier and more fun for both our guests and our team. The robots are intuitive, easy to work with, and bring a little extra joy to delivery."
Coco’s robots are integrated into Shake Shack’s existing Uber Eats workflow, allowing orders placed via the app to pass from kitchen to dispatch without additional manual processing.
The Coco unit handles the final stage of delivery from the restaurant to the customer.
The robots operate on pavements in dense urban areas, moving to customer-designated collection points.
Coco Robotics stated that the service will help the restaurant chain enhance delivery timing and improve order fulfilment during peak periods.
Customers do not incur additional steps, tips or fees for using the robotic option.
Coco Robotics chief commercial officer Melissa Fahs stated: "Shake Shack has redefined what a fine casual experience looks like, and we're proud to help extend that same level of care to their delivery orders.
"By integrating Coco's autonomous delivery technology into Shake Shack's operations with Uber Eats in Chicago, we're supporting their mission to bring great food and hospitality to more guests - efficiently, sustainably and with the same care that defines every Shack experience."
A similar arrangement was announced in July 2025 when US hamburger chain White Castle partnered Coco Robotics to venture into autonomous deliveries through Uber Eats, beginning in Chicago.
