Independents by Sodexo has secured a contract for five years to provide catering services at King’s School in Rochester, UK.

The contract involves the delivery of more than 130,000 meals each academic year.

The partnership offers services for boarding and day pupils at the junior and senior levels of the school.

Sodexo will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with hospitality offerings from two primary kitchens and Bob Doubles, an on-site retail outlet.

A mobile catering trailer will serve students and parents at the school’s sports centre and playing fields, aiming to improve hospitality during matches and events.

King’s School Rochester chose Independents by Sodexo for its local sourcing and its focus on food education and sustainability.

Sodexo will prepare more than 90% of its dishes from scratch with ingredients from local suppliers.

The partnership extends beyond meal service, with the catering arm set to involve pupils in a range of enrichment activities centred around sustainability, nutrition and food culture.

Sodexo will also implement its WasteWatch food waste management initiative and introduce carbon labelling in both kitchens.

These initiatives are designed to support the wider sustainability strategy of the school. This includes student sustainability ambassador roles, themed eco-awareness days and food waste challenges.

Sodexo's in-house nutritionist will conduct assemblies, workshops and talks on topics including balanced nutrition and the impact of food on mood, particularly during adolescence.

"Chefs in the classroom" sessions, which are interactive cookery classes spearheaded by Sodexo development chefs, will also be available to pupils, aimed at enhancing practical food skills.

To achieve a long-term goal of 90% school meal uptake by the fourth year of the contract, Sodexo plans to launch flexible ordering alternatives for senior school students to enhance accessibility.

Independents by Sodexo managing director Simon Knight stated: “We are incredibly proud to partner with King’s School Rochester.

“Our team is excited to deliver fresh, nutritious and inspiring food experiences that not only support the school’s sustainability goals but also deepen pupils’ understanding and appreciation of food.”

Sodexo announced a collaboration with the workplace food-tech platform HUNGRY in June 2025, engaging top chefs and restaurants to enhance foodservice options.
