UK-based fast casual Mexican restaurant Tortilla Mexican Grill is set to open its newest location in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on 21 July.

This will mark the brand's debut in Northern Ireland, with the move expected to create up to 30 jobs.

To celebrate the launch, the restaurant will give away free burritos to locals. Fans will first need to register on Tortilla Mexican Grill's website.

The Irish News reported that Tortilla received planning consent from Belfast City Council to redevelop a shop within the Mayfair Building in the city's Arthur Square last October.

The Mayfair Building is located between the Victoria shopping complex and Cornmarket.

Located on the ground floor, the shop was earlier used by Google and shoe retailer Hotter and has been vacant since October 2020.

News Letter quoted Tortilla Mexican Grill CEO Richard Morris as saying: "We're thrilled to finally be opening in the city of Belfast. We've got a fantastic location in the city centre and a passionate team who embody the values of our friendly local brand."

"Tortilla exists to make life better with burritos and the response we've had from locals in the lead-up to opening has been overwhelmingly positive. Belfast, we're excited to introduce you to our fresh Cali-Mex food and maybe a few too many margaritas, this summer."

Established in London in 2007, Tortilla serves California-style burritos and tacos.

The brand currently has a presence across 80 locations in the UK, along with ten outlets across Dubai and Saudi Arabia, with a workforce of more than 1,000.
