British pan-Asian restaurant chain Wagamama has entered the Indian market with the opening of its inaugural outlet in south Mumbai’s Cambata building.

The brand, established in 1992 in London, has been described as a “cultural icon” in the Middle East and Europe, and is known for its Japanese ramen bars and diverse Asian flavours.

The launch of Wagamama in India is facilitated by K Hospitality Corp.

The menu will feature yasai yaki soba, katsu curry, donburi bowls and a selection of ramen, baos and gyozas.

More than half of its offerings are vegetarian or vegan, and its beverage range includes juices, fruit mocktails and Asian-inspired cocktails.

Wagamama India is committed to a “plant-forward menu”, the use of recyclable packaging, and minimising food waste, states the IndianRetailer.com.

Post the Mumbai launch, the chain plans to expand to Delhi NCR [the National Capital Region] and other Indian cities.

Wagamama franchise and partnerships senior vice-president Francisco Neves stated: “We don’t just serve food – we serve energy. Wagamama is an eating house for the soul. We’re playful, we’re soulful and we believe good food has the power to uplift. India appreciates flavour, freshness and fun, and Mumbai was the perfect place to start this journey.” 

In May 2025, Thomas Heier, who initially joined as people director in 2017 and became CEO of Wagamama UK in 2021, stepped down and was succeeded by Mark Chambers.

In the same month, the Restaurant Group (TRG), which owns Wagamama, announced that it is in discussions to acquire several locations from the Oakman Group, a pub and restaurant chain.
