American provider of consulting services Mise En Place Restaurant Services (MEP) has revealed that its network was hit by a ransomware attack.
MEP is unsure as to whether the stolen information has been used or accessed. It has been identified that there was unauthorised access to MEP’s server last month.

The stolen information of clients include their full names with addresses, social security or federal identification numbers, bank account and routing numbers, driver’s licenses, resident card numbers and passport information, along with login information for insurance, vendors and bank accounts.
The company has changed all network passwords and asked its IT consultant to investigate the issue and find the information of clients and individuals potentially exposed to the attack.
MEP has hired a third-party, forensic IT firm to assist the company in the investigation process. In order to avoid cyber-attacks in the future, MEP has also implemented additional safeguards to its network.
In addition, the consultancy firm has notified all applicable state agencies, three credit reporting bureaus and the FBI.
