India-based Speciality Restaurants has announced plans to launch up to 30 cloud kitchens and six restaurants in the next 18 months, according to media reports.

Through this initiative, the company seeks to expand its operations, both in India and abroad.

Financial Express quoted Speciality Restaurants’ founder and managing director Anjan Chatterjee as saying: “The food industry, which was on a survival and revival mode during the last two years due to Covid-19, is now in thriving mode and is expected to grow well with people resorting to ‘revenge eating’.”

The company currently operates more than 13 independent cloud kitchens.

Furthermore, it is planning to open at least two dine-in restaurants in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the next 18 months, as well as a location in London, UK.

Additionally, Speciality Restaurants will reportedly foray into the ready-to-cook segment with a wide selection of Chinese sauces.

In its annual report for 2021-2022, the company said: “The pandemic, while throwing up immense challenges, has also created new opportunities.

“Keeping an ear to the ground, your company has been quick to seize the moment and pivoted our model to the hybrid model of cloud kitchens along with dine-in restaurants.”

During the pandemic, Speciality Restaurants streamlined its operations and shut unprofitable outlets to limit costs.

As of March, the company, which owns brands such as Oh! Calcutta; Mainland China; and Hoppipola, operates more than 80 restaurants and 37 confectionery stores across India, as well as two locations in the UAE.

Last October, the company opened its Chourangi restaurant as its first location in London.
