The global food service industry noticed a 10.7% drop in IT hiring activity in November 2022 over the previous month, led by Meyer Jabara Hotels 27.39% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The food service industry’s overall hiring activity declined 12.39% when compared with October 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 0.67% share of the global food service industry’s hiring activity in November 2022, down 0.02% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of November 2022 were 3.32% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 11.96% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive food service IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 36.08% emerged as the top IT occupation in the food service hiring activity in November 2022, a 22.86% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 29.4% in November 2022, down 46.56% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Computer Support Specialists with an 11.8% share in November 2022, a decline of 8.62% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with an 11.58% share in November 2022 and a drop of 13.33% over October 2022.

Top five food service companies by recruitment activity in November 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 27.3% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global food service industry during November 2022 over October 2022.

Meyer Jabara Hotels posted 123 IT jobs in November 2022 and registered a rise of 12200% over the previous month, followed by AmRest Holdings with 94 jobs and a 24.19% decline. Delivery Hero with 21 IT jobs and Aimbridge Hospitality with 20 jobs, recorded a 79.41% decline and an 83.61% drop, respectively, while DoorDash recorded a 40.63% drop with 19 job postings during November 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in food service industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global food service IT hiring activity in November 2022 with a 57.68% share, which marked a 22.92% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 17.37%, registering a 41.79% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 16.7% share and a 38.52% drop over October 2022.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 8.24% and a month-on-month rise of 42.31%.
