CMI Foods, the parent company of Pollo Campero, had opened its 100th fast-casual restaurant in Miami Gardens in Florida, US.

The opening is part of a broader $190m initiative aimed at growing the restaurant brand’s presence in the country.

The Guatemala-based company has set an ambitious target to increase its US footprint to 250 locations by 2028.

CMI Foods chairman Juan Jose Gutierrez said: “Each step forward in our growth plan helps to realise the dream of our founders and is the result of the passion for the brand that we all share.

“Pollo Campero’s expansion in new communities across the US reflects our larger commitment to creating opportunities that change lives and delivering exceptional flavours to families across the globe.”

The new Pollo Campero location in Miami Gardens joins the company’s several existing restaurants in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Alongside the opening of the 100th restaurant, Pollo Campero has announced plans to open at least 25 new restaurants in the country by the end of the year.

Globally, Pollo Campero operates nearly 400 restaurants, with a presence in countries such as El Salvador, Honduras, Spain, Belize, Brazil, and Italy.

The company has also disclosed that it will soon open its 150th restaurant in its home country, Guatemala.

Campero USA managing director and chief operating officer Luis Javier Rodas said: “This is just the beginning – if we can do 100, we can open 1,000.

“It’s an exciting time for the brand as we continue to grow our fan base and spread the passion that so many people in Latin America have for our unique flavours in the competitive US market.”

With more than 8,000 employees worldwide, Pollo Campero is a significant player in the international foodservice sector.

The US expansion of Pollo Campero is a key component of CMI Foods’ larger investment strategy, which includes a commitment of $1.8bn.

This investment is expected to bolster the brand’s growth in Central America and also fund projects in wheat flour mills, packaged goods, meat production operations, and initiatives focused on technology and sustainability.

The strategy is expected to generate over 40,000 direct jobs globally.
