US fast-food company McDonald’s has introduced a contactless delivery service in Singapore to prevent the spread of Coronavirus Covid-19.
The move comes as the number of coronavirus cases in Singapore increased to 89.
The contactless service minimises human contact while delivering food, helping to mitigate the risks of person-to-person transmission of the disease.

Earlier, McDonald’s initiated a similar service in China, from where the novel coronavirus disease originated.
In an advisory, McDonald’s Singapore stated that delivery riders will drop the order at the agreed location and will notify the customer. The delivery executive will stand at a distance until the customer collects the order to complete the delivery process.
Customers can request contactless deliveries in the ‘Remarks’ section during the checkout process.
In addition to contactless deliveries, the fast-food company initiated several other measures to restrict Covid-19 transmission.
These include frequent temperature checks for all delivery riders. Additionally, delivery drivers will wear masks and wash their hands before each delivery. Delivery bags will also be sanitised every two hours.
Last month, McDonald’s closed 300 restaurants in China’s Hubei province along with other restaurant chains as a preventive measure to restrict the outbreak.
The Covid-19 outbreak has affected a total of 32 countries. As of 24 February, the death toll increased to 2,619 while the number of confirmed cases is 79,336.
