Cloud kitchen company Curefoods has purchased franchise rights in South India for Sbarro, a US-based pizza chain.

Over the next three years, Curefoods intends to establish around 50 outlets under the Sbarro brand. The planned outlets will initially be launched in the Indian state of Karnataka.

The expansion will include walk-in outlets, as well as Cloud kitchens. This is expected to provide optimum customer reach.

The first Curefoods-owned Sbarro outlet is planned to be launched within the next quarter in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Currently, Sbarro is present in 630 locations across 28 countries. It first forayed into the Indian market in 2012.

Master franchise rights for the Sbarro brand in India are operated by Upper Crust Foods.

Curefoods expects the addition of Sbarro to complement its multi-brand multi-kitchen model and contribute to growing its production capacity.

It is also expected to help expand Curefoods’ customer base in the pizza segment.

Curefoods chief business officer Gokul Kandhi said: “A New York-style pizza offering is a great addition overall to our portfolio at Curefoods. By working with an international brand such as Sbarro, we aim to leverage our expertise in scale and technology to amplify its presence further.

“This partnership will not only strengthen our presence in the pizza category but also help us serve a globally recognised and loved legacy pizza brand to the country.”

Launched in 2020, Curefoods owns more than 135 kitchens across 12 cities in India. It operates brands such as Great Indian Khichdi, EatFit, Aligarh House Biryani and CakeZone.
