American submarine sandwich chain Jersey Mike’s Subs has teamed up with Canadian restaurant operator Redberry to expand its presence in the country.

The chain plans to open 300 Canadian locations by 2034 – its first substantial international expansion in its 68-year history.

Redberry, now the area director for Jersey Mike’s Subs in Canada, will spearhead the brand’s growth through a mix of company-owned and franchisee-supported stores.

The agreement includes the acquisition and renovation of two existing Jersey Mike’s outlets in Kitchener and London, Ontario.

These stores will be revamped early in 2024 to align with Jersey Mike’s new brand image.

Redberry will also inaugurate five new Jersey Mike’s restaurants in Ontario in 2024.

Jersey Mike’s franchise systems founder and CEO Peter Cancro said: “We are proud to partner with Ken Otto and his team at Redberry. Their extensive history and reputation in the restaurant business are second to none.

“Also critical to our company is that they share the same culture and mission statement: to give and make a difference. They are committed to their team members and their local communities.”

Redberry’s current portfolio includes 180 restaurant locations under the Burger King and Taco Bell banners.

With the addition of Jersey Mike’s, Redberry has committed to more than 600 new restaurants.

Redberry CEO Ken Otto said: “We’re thrilled that Jersey Mike’s entrusted us with bringing their iconic brand to Canada. We resonated strongly with their culture, product and mission, and are excited to make it happen for both Jersey Mike’s and their Canadian fans.

“In addition to building our own Jersey Mike’s, growth will be accelerated by way of supporting other franchisees to join the Jersey Mike’s story in every province across Canada.”
