The Netherlands-based food ordering and delivery company Just Eat Takeaway.com is set to trial a new service to help customers order food via in-car applications.

The company is testing the new service to respond to address the evolving requirements of the food delivery industry.

Just Eat Takeaway.com is testing a service that can help drivers place their orders using their car screen, while they have stopped at a petrol station or are charging the vehicle.

“Trends around ordering breakfast, lunch and other things that really grew in the pandemic are still there,” said Just Eat chief product officer Jessica Hall.

According to the food delivery company, the new service will only be available for stationary vehicles.

The new delivery platform will initially be available across Europe, beginning with its launch in the UK – one of Just Eat’s strongest markets.

Just Eat Takeaway.com will roll out the service in collaboration with a car manufacturer in the first half of 2024.

Headquartered in Amsterdam, Just Eat Takeaway.com is an online food delivery marketplace that works to connect consumers and restaurants via its platform across 25 countries.

The company was formed in January 2020 by combining Takeaway.com with Denmark-based Just Eat.

After the Covid-19 lockdowns, delivery companies have faced challenges matching the continuously evolving food delivery ecosystem.

In a bid to counter the growing challenges, Just Eat has been working to expand its offering beyond takeaway and to include groceries and other retail items in partnership with retailers J Sainsbury in the UK and GameStop Corp in Germany.

In March 2023, Just Eat Takeaway eliminated 1,700 delivery workers’ jobs in the UK.
