LSG Sky Chefs has expanded its presence with the opening of a new inflight-catering facility at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi, Kenya.

Apatana Investment and Continental Services will manage the facility under LSG Sky Chefs Kenya Ltd.

The catering facility has 1,200m² of production area featuring equipment. It will serve as certified halal customer service centre (CSC).

LSG Group CEO Erdmann Rauer said: “Our two countries, Kenya and Germany, have been working together in close collaboration for more than 50 years in terms of political, economic and cultural exchanges.

“It is, therefore, natural that we looked into the opportunity to establish a presence in Kenya.”

LSG Sky Chefs entered Africa in 1978 through a joint venture in Cairo. The company currently operates seven CSCs in Angola, Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa and Tanzania.

Commenting on the opening, LSG Sky Chefs emerging markets business region head Alfred Rigler said: “It has been LSG’s longstanding tradition and understanding of entrepreneurship to create win-win situations by joining forces with partners who have a good reputation and a strong network in their home market.

“That is why we are so pleased to have found the right partners, and worked together to form a joint venture that is of mutual benefit.”

Last month, the inflight-catering services firm opened a customer service centre (CSC) near Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) in Phoenix, Arizona, US.

The 97,000ft² facility includes next-generation kitchen equipment to produce large volumes of food and others customer-centred features.
