Canada-based pizza franchise Pizza Pizza has expanded its PZA Pizzeria restaurant brand in Mexico.

The company has opened two restaurants in the Guadalajara and Ajijic areas as part of its brand expansion initiative.

Mexico’s multi-brand franchise operator Food Gurú will be responsible for PZA Pizzeria brand expansion in the region.

Food Gurú CEO Nataly Valdez said: “The pizza segment has proven to be one of the most valued across consumers and I am confident that PZA Pizzeria will be recognised for our unique offering.

“The market is hungry for a new player that can add fresh options to the table and PZA Pizzeria, being a Pizza Pizza Limited brand, will offer exciting new choices for consumers.”

Food Gurú initially plans to open three PZA Pizzeria restaurants in Guadalajara as part of its expansion to open five restaurants in 2024.

Pizza Pizza president and CEO Paul Goddard said: “This is a significant milestone for Pizza Pizza Limited. For the first time, we’re bringing our unique combination of quality, service, and value to an international market.

“We’ve created a new brand for Mexico and other international markets – PZA Pizzeria – which ties back to our Canadian heritage, our PZA stock ticker, and introduces pizza lovers in Mexico to a new approach to fast, fresh, delicious pizza.

“Our wide selection of pizzas, signature chicken products and famous slices is a proven formula that we look forward to bringing to Mexico and beyond.”

PZA Pizzeria has been offering a wide range of pizzas in a quick-service format with alternative crust options, signature wings, and famous dips.

The restaurant brand noted that Pizza by the slice will also be offered as an added convenience and value option.

Grupo Moctezuma will provide beer while soft drinks will be from The Coca-Cola Company.

Pizza Pizza has been in the pizza franchise business for more than 55 years and operates over 730 restaurants across Canada.
