Italian restaurant chain Spaghetti House has closed all its restaurants in the UK after its owner Lavval Restaurants entered administration, The Independent reported.

The company cited rising costs and difficult trading conditions amid “global instability” as reasons for the shutdown, which has resulted in 101 job losses across the business.

A statement on the Spaghetti House website read: “We’re sorry all our restaurants are now closed. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to our loyal customers, partners and team members, past and present, for your support over the years.”

Lavval Restaurants appointed BTG Advisory as administrators last week.

According to the publication, Spaghetti House had already exited three London locations in recent months, including sites in Mayfair, Goodge Street and Fitzrovia.

BTG has now closed the remaining five central London restaurants, confirming the full shutdown of the estate.

BTG partner Asher Miller was quoted by The Independent as saying: “After a number of years of challenging market conditions worsened by soaring operational, employment, energy and tax costs affecting the hospitality industry, the directors of Lavval Restaurants approached BTG for advice on their available options.

“Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the directors made the difficult decision to enter administration and appoint us to manage the controlled wind-down of the business.”

Spaghetti House was founded in 1955 by Simone Lavarini and had remained under family ownership.

Lavval Restaurants executive chairman and chief executive Luigi Lavarini told The Independent: “Years of increasing costs from the pandemic, Brexit, Government budgets and global instability have created difficult market conditions for hospitality.

“Balancing these costs with reduced demand and spending from customers as they navigate the rising cost of living has proven too challenging.

“Despite best efforts and seeking professional advice, we have had to make this difficult but necessary decision to wind down our business.”
