American restaurant chain Chick-fil-A has revealed its expansion plans for Puerto Rico, where it intends to increase its current count of five restaurants to between 20 and 25 by the end of 2030.

The expansion will provide entrepreneurship opportunities for Puerto Rican small business owners, who can serve as Chick-fil-A owner-operators.

The expansion plan will generate between 75 and 120 jobs per restaurant, which will have a significant impact on local employment.

Chick-fil-A International vice-president Paul Trotti said: “Chick-fil-A’s growth in Puerto Rico creates a tremendous opportunity not only for our business but for economic development and local community impact across the Island.

“We’re pleased to bring our authentic Chick-fil-A experience to more people across Puerto Rico, while also serving local communities and living out our commitment to having a positive influence on all we come into contact with.”

Each new restaurant will represent a substantial investment in construction, potentially providing work for up to 100 construction workers per site.

The company's planned expansion on the island is bolstered by a government tax decree that permits Chick-fil-A to construct restaurants in qualified opportunity zones.

Puerto Rico Secretary of the Department of Economic Development and Commerce, Manuel Cidre said: “It is our duty to support the growth of companies like Chick-fil-A, which contribute to economic development by creating jobs and social wellbeing, demonstrating with philanthropic actions a high sense of solidarity with others and community commitment.

“This great news of their plans to expand to many other regions of the island fills us with joy, as they have proven to provide high-quality products and services, which has allowed them to achieve success in such a short time in Puerto Rico.” 

In May 2024, Chick-fil-A announced the launch of the Maple Pepper Bacon Sandwich and the re-launch of the Peach Milkshake.
