Del Taco shuts Columbus and Phenix city stores in US – report

The move comes as the company remains under financial strain, with sales weakening and several franchisees filing for bankruptcy.

Del Taco has withdrawn from the US' Chattahoochee Valley region, closing its restaurants in Columbus, Georgia; and Phenix City, Alabama, according to a WTVM report.

The locations have stopped trading, with notices on the doors informing customers of the permanent closures.

At the same time, the Mexican fast-food chain has removed these outlets, along with all of its 11 restaurants in Georgia, from the location listings on its website.

Del Taco had previously operated in Columbus and Phenix City decades ago before returning to the market nearly 12 years ago.

The Columbus restaurant was relaunched in August 2014, with the Phenix City branch following in November 2019.

The company has faced financial strain in recent years, with weaker sales and several franchisees filing for bankruptcy.

The brand has changed ownership during this period. Jack in the Box acquired Del Taco in March 2022 in a deal valued at $585m, then sold it to Yadav Enterprises in December 2025 for roughly $119m.

A spokesperson for Del Taco told The Independent in a statement: "We were recently informed that the franchisee operating our Atlanta, Columbus and Macon, Georgia locations has closed all restaurants in these markets.

“This closure occurred without prior notice to Del Taco. The franchisee is currently undergoing bankruptcy proceedings, and we are actively exploring options to reopen these locations as soon as possible. Updates will be shared as plans are finalised.”
