Google enhances AI Search features for restaurant reservations

The updated AI Mode enables users to request dinner reservations while specifying constraints and preferences.

Google has announced updates to its AI Mode in Search, which now includes agentic capabilities designed to assist users in making restaurant reservations.

The AI Mode in Search feature has been made available in 180 additional countries and territories, although it is currently limited to English and not accessible in European Union countries.

The updated mode enables users to request dinner reservations while specifying constraints and preferences.

The system will search across multiple websites and reservation platforms to identify real-time availability for restaurants that fit the user's criteria, providing a curated list of options with available slots.

Once a restaurant is finalised, users will receive a direct link to the booking page, facilitating the reservation process.

To support this functionality, Google is collaborating with Booksy, OpenTable, Resy, SeatGeek, StubHubTock and Ticketmaster.

This feature is part of the Agentic capabilities in AI Mode experiment available in Google Search Labs for individuals with a subscription to Google AI Ultra in the US.

Participants will see search results tailored to their preferences, particularly regarding dining options.

AI Mode is intended to help users discover new restaurants and cafes that align with their tastes.

If a user seeks a quick lunch option, the AI will take into account previous searches and interactions to present more relevant suggestions.

A Share functionality has been introduced, allowing users in the US to share their findings from AI Mode with others, aiding collaboration for tasks such as trip planning or event organisation, with the ability to delete shared links at any time.
