Finnish burger chain Hesburger has opened its 15th restaurant in Romania, further strengthening its presence in the local fast-food market.

The new restaurant, located within the Cosmopolis residential complex in Bucharest, entailed an investment of €1m.

According to a report in Business Review, the 223m² outlet created 15 jobs. It offers 30 indoor seats and 32 terrace seats. It is also equipped with self-service ordering stations and a drive-through lane for car traffic.

Hesburger communications and international marketing director Ieva Salmela was quoted by the publication as saying: “We are delighted to start 2026 with a new opening in Cosmopolis, the largest residential project built in Romania since 1989, and to already reach our 15th restaurant in Romania.

“We continue to build on the strong momentum achieved since entering Romania and offer all our customers sustainable and high-quality offerings.”

Since entering the Romanian market in 2024, Hesburger has opened restaurants in Râmnicu Vâlcea and at Henri Coandă International Airport in Otopeni, as well as units in Brăila, Buzău, Craiova, and Galați.

The chain also operates multiple restaurants in Bucharest.

Operated by Burger-In Oy, the Finnish fast-food chain began operations in 1966 in Naantali, and has grown to more than 490 restaurants across nine countries.

According to company data, Hesburger operates locations in Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania and Ukraine. The chain employs about 6,000 people in Finland and around 9,100 employees internationally.

In 2024, taxable sales for all Hesburger restaurants in Finland totalled €295m, while taxable sales from restaurants outside Finland amounted to €193.6m.
