US-based fast-casual chain Huey Magoo’s has signed a development agreement with SMR Capital Group to open 15 restaurants across Texas.

The planned rollout will target key markets in the state, including Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston and Montgomery counties.

Huey Magoo’s president and CEO Andy Howard said: “We continue to attract proven operators who see the strength of the Huey Magoo's brand and our ability to scale.

“SMR Capital Group brings the right combination of operational expertise and development experience, and we're confident in their ability to successfully grow the brand across Texas.”

SMR Capital Group specialises in franchise operations and is led by managing partner Muhammad Ali Akbar and operating partner Jason Gilbert.

Akbar said: “We were deliberate in selecting a brand that aligns with our long-term growth strategy, and Huey Magoo's stood out for its strong fundamentals and scalability.

“We see a significant opportunity in our territory and look forward to building a high-performing portfolio across these markets."

Founded in 2004, Huey Magoo's is known for hand-breaded and grilled chicken tenders.

Last year, the brand rolled out a smaller 1,500ft² restaurant format, which is designed to reduce buildout costs and development timelines, as well as enable entry into more compact sites.

Huey Magoo’s is said to be on track to reach 100 outlets in 2026. The chain currently operates at more than 85 locations in 12 states across the US.

In February, Huey Magoo’s signed a 12-unit deal to enter Texas and expand in Alabama.
