India’s FSSAI mandates FBOs to display QR code for Food Safety Connect app

The Food Safety Connect app is a platform that allows consumers to report issues related to food safety.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has mandated that all food business operators (FBOs), which include restaurants, cafés and other outlets, to display their FSSAI licence or registration certificate alongside a QR code for the Food Safety Connect app.

The QR code and the relevant certification should be placed in areas that are easily visible to customers, such as at entrances, billing counters or alongside seating.

The initiative is aimed at enhancing public health measures and improving the overall food safety framework.

The introduction of the QR code is intended to provide consumers with a direct means to raise concerns regarding food safety.

In a nationwide advisory, the FSSAI has instructed all FBOs to comply with this directive, which aligns with the licensing conditions outlined in the FSS (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations 2011.

FBOs are also required to feature the QR code or a direct link to download the Food Safety Connect app on their digital platforms, including websites and online ordering services, where applicable.

The app allows consumers to report issues related to food safety and hygiene, as well as to highlight misleading claims about food products.

It also provides access to information about licensed and registered FBOs and updates on FSSAI’s food safety initiatives.

Complaints submitted via the app are routed to the appropriate jurisdictional authority, facilitating prompt action and reducing delays in addressing consumer concerns.

This measure reflects the FSSAI's ongoing commitment to promoting safe eating practices across the country.
