Indian rail ticketing platforms ixigo Trains and ConfirmTkt have collaborated with food ordering company Swiggy to offer on-train food delivery services, according to The Economic Times (ET).

As part of the arrangement, Swiggy’s restaurant network has been integrated into both apps.

This will enable passengers to order meals during their journeys, with deliveries made to their seats at scheduled station stops.

The passengers can order meals from more than 40,000 restaurant partners across over 160 railway stations.

According to ET, travellers can place orders through the “Order Food on Train” option on the home screens of the ixigo Trains and ConfirmTkt apps.

After entering their passenger name record (PNR) and choosing a station, users can browse menus from Swiggy-listed outlets, pay in-app and follow their order status in real time.

Meals can be scheduled well before the journey, with bookings accepted up to four days in advance. Passengers can also order closer to arrival, up to 30 minutes before the train reaches the selected station.

Swiggy has offered an “assured delivery or full refund” guarantee on all orders placed through this integrated on-train food service.

ixigo Trains and ConfirmTkt COO Sripad Vaidya was quoted by ET as saying: “Our focus has always been to simplify and enhance every aspect of the train travel journey. Food is an integral part of that experience.

“By partnering with Swiggy, we are combining our deep understanding of train travel with Swiggy's strong restaurant network and delivery expertise to further strengthen our existing 'Food on Train' feature.

“This collaboration enables us to offer greater choice, reliability and transparency, while ensuring timely and hygienic meal delivery directly to passengers' seats."
