SSP, in collaboration with Starbucks and Heathrow, has inaugurated a new Starbucks outlet at Heathrow Terminal 5.

The new 252m² store can accommodate 50 guests.

It is equipped with nine coffee machines to handle the high volume of passengers, serving hundreds every hour.

SSP UK & Ireland CEO Kari Daniels said: “This new store at Terminal 5 is our flagship Starbucks at the country’s flagship airport.

“We know how important it is for our customers to be served promptly – especially when they have a flight to catch.

“The customer journey and efficiency are at the heart of our operations, and we’ve made sure that the design of this new store allows for quick and easy service for passengers on the go. We’ve also ensured the store is future-proofed to manage growing customer numbers into the future.”

Located in the airside departures area, the Starbucks store opened just in time for the peak summer 2024 travel season.

The store features a dual-counter design to expedite service for travellers, accommodating both in-person orders and those placed via mobile devices.

The partnership between SSP and Starbucks dates back to their first collaborative store opening at Heathrow in 2012.

SSP currently operates four Starbucks stores across Heathrow's terminals.

The store's design is inspired by the landscapes of coffee-growing regions, and the ceiling's layered curves reflect the topography of coffee farms, while the natural colour palette and clear walkways facilitate easy navigation and efficient service for both takeaway and dine-in customers.

As summer approaches, Heathrow anticipates a surge in passenger traffic, with an estimated 30 million travellers expected to pass through its terminals.

This projection follows 2023/24's record-setting year for Heathrow, which saw 81.5 million passengers in the 12 months leading up to May 2024.
