Technology company Square has introduced a new drive-through solution that combines order capture, kitchen coordination and customer handoff in one workflow for quick-service restaurants (QSRs).
The Square for Drive-Thru tool has been developed via a collaboration with The Howard Company and Nanonation.
It is aimed at QSRs that handle high traffic volumes and want to reduce delays and order mistakes, as well as move customers through the lane faster at peak hours.
Built on the Square for Restaurants platform, the new offering allows orders placed at the menu board to appear straight away on an order confirmation screen. This gives customers real-time visibility into their orders.
In the kitchen, routing rules in the kitchen display systems (KDS) direct each order to the correct station. Automatic order numbering is used to label tickets, helping staff see what needs to be prepared and match the right items to the right vehicle at handoff.
The company added Square for Drive-Thru links into its reporting, cash flow, marketing and customer engagement tools.
Open APIs are available so operators can continue to run their preferred external systems without rebuilding their back-end setup.
Square food and beverage head James Schonzeit said: “For multi-location QSRs, drive-through is one of those moments that needs to shine.
“With Square for Drive-Thru, we're giving operators the foundation to scale with confidence and reaffirming the fact that Square is the long-term partner multi-location QSRs can rely on as they grow."
Square for Drive-Thru is currently offered through an Early Access Program, with broader rollout expected later this year.
Last month, Açaí Republic selected Square’s unified commerce platform for its restaurant network in the US.
