The service operates at more than 450 colleges.

Once completed, DoorDash plans to further expand Grubhub Campus Dining across the US.

It also intends to broaden the choice and convenience available to students while extending Tapingo’s integrated technology platform to venues such as stadiums and hotels.

The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory review and customary closing conditions.

In addition, DoorDash also invested $125m in Grubhub owner Wonder. The investment forms part of Wonder’s $650m Series D funding round announced earlier this year.

The funding will support Wonder’s physical expansion and its investment in AI, technology and robotics.

DoorDash co-founder and CEO Tony Xu said: “Our mission at DoorDash is to grow and empower local economies.

“Adding Grubhub Campus Dining to our platform will enable us to bring greater choice and convenience to college students while streamlining operations and reducing friction for universities.

“In addition, we’re pleased to be investing in Wonder as they continue to expand access to world-class food for communities across the nation.”

Wonder operates more than 25 in-house and chef-developed food concepts. It uses hardware and software to turn the methods of Michelin-starred chefs and restaurants into a repeatable, machine-readable process intended to provide consistency, quality, and customisation.

The company has 157 sites across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. Its footprint has increased more than fourfold since the beginning of 2025.

Wonder is scheduled to enter markets beyond the East Coast in 2027, with its first Texas locations set to open in January.

Wonder founder and CEO Marc Lore said: “Wonder was founded to make great food more accessible. To us, that means higher-quality food at lower prices, with more choice and convenience, in more communities.

“Our partnership with DoorDash lets us continue investing in the technology, robotics and infrastructure that mission requires. Grubhub Campus Dining is a thriving business built by a great team, and DoorDash is well positioned to take it further.”
