Fast-food restaurant chain The Wendy’s Company and mobility, logistics hubs and kitchens operator REEF have committed to opening and operating 700 delivery kitchens in the US, Canada and the UK by 2025.

The collaboration builds on the successful pilot of eight delivery kitchens in Canada.

With this commitment, REEF is set to become the first Wendy’s franchisee in the UK.

Wendy’s International president and chief development officer Abigail Pringle said: “The demand for convenient delivery solutions means we must look for opportunities beyond our traditional restaurant formats, especially in dense urban areas.

“This partnership with REEF is testimony to our ambitions, the potential we see to grow our beloved brand and our quest to reach more customers in more ways.”

Wendy’s and REEF plan to initially open approximately 50 delivery kitchens this year, with the remainder launched by 2025.

Currently, REEF has a network of kitchens in 30 cities across the globe, which are delivering food to customers while reducing traffic congestion and pollution.

REEF Kitchens president Michael Beacham said: “We are proud to partner with Wendy’s to show how a restaurant brand can successfully and conveniently scale with REEF’s delivery kitchen platform to reach more customers faster and with Wendy’s world-famous commitment to quality food and service.

“Wendy’s is an incredible brand and we look forward to being a part of their continued success in the future.”

In May, Wendy’s announced plans to open nearly 400 Wendy’s outlets across the UK in the years to come.

Wendy’s previously left the UK market in 2001 due to high operating and property costs, as well as other overheads.
