Aniai, a provider of automation and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions in the foodservice sector, has secured a $12m pre-Series A funding round.

The latest funding brings Aniai’s total capital raised to $15m.

The funding round was led by InterVest, a venture capital firm from South Korea, and joined by new investors such as SV Investment and UK-based Ignite Innovation.

The company’s existing investor Capstone Partners also participated.

It also developed the “Alpha Grill” which utilises robotics to efficiently cook hamburgers.

The investment will bolster the company’s efforts to transform the industry with its robotic cooking solutions.

Aniai plans to use the fresh capital to accelerate the opening of its first dedicated manufacturing facility, Factory One, in South Korea.

The strategic move aims to ensure stable production and supply chain management for the Alpha Grill, in line with the company’s expansion plans in North America and globally.

Factory One is expected to produce more than 1,000 Alpha Grill units annually.

Aniai co-founder and CEO Gunpil Hwang said: “Aniai has successfully completed a round of funding from both domestic and international investors who have recognised our innovative solutions, future potential and remarkable progress within the foodservice industry to date.

“This capital infusion will help our mission to improve kitchen productivity through robotics and automation while helping us ramp up production to meet current and future demand.

“Additionally, Aniai plans to augment its robotic solutions by adding advanced, cloud-based, AI software to further enhance the capabilities and performance of the Alpha Grill early this year, which will benefit new and existing Aniai customers.”
