Restaurant software provider Olo has formed a partnership with POS company Qu to integrate its digital payment processing tool, Olo Pay, with Qu’s point-of-sale (POS) system.

The collaboration marks Olo’s first entry into digitising card swipes at the POS, expanding its payment capabilities to include drive-through and counter transactions.

The integration of Olo Pay with Qu’s POS system is anticipated to augment payment opportunities for Olo, which were previously limited to app, web orders and kiosks.

Restaurants using Qu’s system will gain access to detailed data from card-present transactions, such as individual items ordered and customer modifications.

Qu CEO Amir Hudda said: “This partnership is rooted in our joint desire to further digital innovation industry-wide, ensuring brands get more out of this best-in-class in-store and digital solution.

“Enabling card-present digital transactions at the POS will not only streamline the payment process, but it will also allow brands to collect more data than ever, down to the ingredient level, that can be used to further personalise each guest experience through Olo Engage.”

Qu, a cloud-based POS provider, caters to large limited-service brands including Church’s Chicken, Blaze Pizza and Taco John’s.

The company has also been appointed as the new POS supplier for GoTo Foods, which owns brands including Auntie Anne’s and Cinnabon.

Olo founder and CEO Noah Glass said: “According to data from Circana, 84% of restaurant transactions are not yet digital. Olo’s integration with Qu brings the industry one step closer to reaching 100% digital, equipping our restaurant brands with the flexible tools to increase orders, streamline operations and make every guest feel like a regular.

“Olo’s open platform and Olo Connect network of over 300 integrated technology providers prove that working together is the best way to accelerate the industry’s digital transformation: a philosophy Qu shares.

“The industrial logic of the partnership between Olo and Qu is clear, and we’re proud to offer this new level of flexibility through our Olo Pay and Engage integration.”

In January 2024, Olo expanded its borderless functionality to all customers who use its white-label ordering interface Serve.
