Starbucks Chile has opened its first coffeehouse in Puerto Varas, run under a licensing agreement with Alsea.

The coffee chain added that the new venue was built using a sustainability-focused design. It incorporates recycled materials, alongside an energy‑efficient system intended to reduce overall resource use.

A waste management programme aimed at increasing recycling has also been introduced on site.

Alsea South America’s Starbucks managing director Claudia Aburto said: “We are thrilled to arrive in Puerto Varas, a city that reflects the warmth and sense of community we strive to create in every coffeehouse.

“This opening reinforces Starbucks’ commitment to expanding across southern Chile, while creating meaningful job opportunities for our partners and positive local impact for the community.

“We believe this new coffeehouse will become a welcoming Third Place where customers can connect over coffee.”

The Puerto Varas site adds to a series of recent store openings in partnership with Alsea.

New Chilean locations have been launched in northern cities of Calama and Antofagasta, as well as southern markets, including Osorno, Valdivia and Puerto Montt.

Starbucks entered Chile in 2003 with its first store in Santiago. The network has since grown to 180 coffeehouses nationwide, employing more than 2,000 partners.

Last month, Starbucks completed a joint venture deal with private equity company Boyu Capital, ceding control of its China operations. Following the close, funds managed by Boyu Capital hold a 60% stake in Starbucks China’s retail operations while Starbucks retains the remaining 40%.
