US-based fast-casual restaurant chain Donatos Pizza has announced the expansion of its menu with the introduction of a new item, the Calzato.

Set to make its debut this summer, Calzato has a crispy exterior of signature thin dough with a melted, interior containing up to three toppings that can be customised.

It is then folded, baked and finished with a sprinkle of Romano and Asiago cheeses and olive oil.

Each Calzato is then sliced into two pieces, making it an ideal single-serve option.

Donatos Pizza is introducing the item at an introductory price of $7.99.

This promotion is available from 1 July until 28 July 2024.

Donatos Pizza chief marketing officer Jodie Conrad said: “We are thrilled to introduce our new Calzato to the Donatos menu.

“It's the perfect option for our busy, on-the-go customers. Designed to fit in your hand, the Calzato is a delicious choice for pizza lovers who want to enjoy their meal without slowing down.”

In March 2024, Donatos Pizza announced its expansion into Texas, with intentions to open 20 new restaurants in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area.

The expansion was carried out by four franchise groups located throughout the region.

These groups will lead the initial introduction of Donatos Pizza across the area, offering the chain's premium pizzas, subs, salads and wings.

Donatos Pizza is pursuing further development opportunities, with available territories across the state for potential franchise partners.
