US restaurant company Domino’s Pizza has opened Innovation Garage, a new workspace located at Domino’s Farms in Ann Arbor, Detroit, Michigan.

The centre will allow cross-functional teams to work collaboratively to develop and test new innovation using advanced technology.

Located on a 33,000ft2 space, the two-storey building features an open-concept design space to accommodate 150 team members, along with collaboration work spaces, private meeting rooms and a pizza theatre.

The pizza theatre will allow project-based teams to develop and test new technologies including ordering kiosks and a carryout tracker.

Domino’s chief technology officer Kelly Garcia said: “Domino’s Innovation Garage is focused on accelerating Domino’s spirit of creativity and collaboration.

“As a pizza company with a focus on technology, we want our team members to have a workspace that encourages experimentation and fosters an environment to take risks, test innovations and fail-fast so they can bring their best cutting-edge ideas to life for the brand’s customers and stores.”

In addition, the garage features a dedicated space to test delivery innovations such as GPS tracking, the customer interface on autonomous pizza delivery vehicles, such as robotics company Nuro’s R2.

In June this year, the pizza chain partnered with Nuro to offer autonomous pizza delivery using the custom unmanned vehicle, R2, later this year.

The new centre also features the company’s AnyWare ordering technology and in-store technology, as well as a quality assurance lab for testing pretotypes.

Garcia added: “Having a hub for our community of smart, creative and dynamic team members to develop our brand and take it to the next level is important for our continued success.

“We’re proud to now have a space dedicated to learning, exploring, testing and launching new ideas in a way that only Domino’s can do.”
